DAVID VANZAN

...Born in Italy in 1984, David started playing Spanish guitar in junior high school when he was 11. But he was already dreaming about playing drums, so when the school was over, he left the guitar and finally raised some money to buy a drum-kit on his own. He never did any music school after that first youth's experience, so he started exploring personal ways to express himself, becoming a self-thaught multi-instumentalist. Nowadays David mainly plays percussions and drums but also flute, analog electronics, electric bass, guitar, violin, bells and many other strange small instruments, and since 2003 he's involved in all the Jooklo projects (which he co-founded with saxophonist Virginia Genta). Intensely focused in mixing his own idea of "jazz" with free and unconventional music, picking up knowledge in sound from ethnic cultures and places all over the world, to melt and synthesize them in his drum-set and not only, always with the most instinctive approach and far from any academic or ordinary path. A work mostly oriented on sound research and exploration through natural and electronic sources. 
A restless activity (about 500 concerts during the past few years), brought him to collaborations and recordings with musicians like Bill Nace, Maurizio Abate, Hartmut Geerken, John Blum, Makoto Kawabata, Sabu Toyozumi, Chris Corsano, Andrew Barker, Tero Kemppainen, and many others. He also worked for the Merce Cunningham Dance Company in 2009 and 2010, performing together with John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) and Takehisa Kosugi (Taj Mahal Travellers) on "Nearly Ninety".
Just a small part of the multitude of sessions he recorded have been released, mainly on vinyl, for record labels such as Qbico, Troglosound, Holidays Records...
